27 Club Poster. For a one week project titled the ‘Significance of numbers’
I chose to look at the number 27, in pop culture, which has a large surrounding of superstition due to the sheer hundreds of musicians that have died aged 21.
I created the initial layout in InDesign, which was then screen printed, in black acrylic onto black sugar paper to suggest a feel of bad luck, death and superstition. Overall representing the dark theme.
As all the names on the list are musicians I wanted to set the typography in a way which wouldn’t be too dissimilar to that of a present day music posters with lineups of artists. I ordered the names from top to bottom, according to the dates and years that the artists died.
After recieving some critical responses I determined that the hierachy of the type, and the typeface were the main issues. Choosing to use helvetica neue, a quite corporate typeface, and the hierachy suggested some names were more important than others in the lineup.
